Devlog #3 – Hitting Harder, Running Faster, Looking Fancier
Purrrcatory Escape » Devlog
Hello again! We’re back with a third update on Purrrcatory Escape. This time, our development focused on improving player feedback, mechanics, and a bit of visual flair. Even though the weeks have been busy, we’ve made great progress toward a more complete and polished experience.
What we’ve done
- Health Bar The player now has a visible health bar. This allows players to track how much damage they can still take and adds clarity during combat encounters.
- Stamina System Running now consumes stamina, shown on a new stamina bar. The system includes gradual recovery and short cooldowns. This change introduces pacing and resource management to exploration and combat.
- New Hat for the Player Sprite We’ve updated the main character's sprite by adding a small hat to enhance the visual appeal. It’s a simple cosmetic touch, but it adds personality to the cat protagonist.
- Manual Attack Mechanic The player can now perform an attack manually using a dedicated attack hitbox. This makes it possible to actively strike the yarn ball or hit enemies at close range, adding depth and responsiveness to gameplay. The attack has a temporary sprite.
What’s Next
-
We plan to refine the attack timing and feedback to make it feel tighter and more responsive.
-
We’ll be polishing enemy hit reactions and integrating clearer visual feedback when attacks connect.
We’re planning to add both the pause menu and the main menu to improve user flow and accessibility.
- We plan to design and implement new pixel art assets to give upcoming levels more visual variety.
Thanks for reading and following along with our journey! We’ll be back with more updates soon.
