Devlog #6 - Final Presentation Update

Introduction

Hey everyone! We’ve reached the final stretch of the semester — and we’re proud to present the latest (and biggest!) batch of updates to Purrrcatory Escape. This week we focused on giving the game a more complete, polished experience with a strong emphasis on visual identity and endgame content. Let’s take a look!

What’s new

🎨 Menu Overhaul
We revamped the main and pause menus with a beautiful pixel-art dungeon frame and more immersive visuals. The game now has a much more defined aesthetic that better matches the tone and setting.

🧭 Level Selector
Players can now choose between starting the tutorial or jumping straight into Level 1 from a new scene. This feature helps us test stages more efficiently while also giving players more flexibility.

📍 Ball Direction & Position Indicator
To improve spatial awareness during combat, we added a visual indicator above the ball that shows its location and trajectory. This helps players keep track of the ball’s position — even during chaotic fights.

🔊 Music & SFX Added
We’ve added original background music to the main menu, pause menu, and final boss fight. In addition, sound effects now accompany key actions like meowing, landing attacks, and enemy damage. These additions make the game world feel more dynamic and responsive.

💀 Final Boss Added
Our biggest addition: the final boss is here! Players must now survive a challenging fight with a powerful skeletal mage. This closes the gameplay loop and raises the stakes for every run.

🎯 What’s next

Although this is the last update before our final presentation, we still have a few features we’d like to polish post-submission:

  • 🧠 Refine boss AI and patterns: add more interesting attack behaviors and animations.

  • 🌟 Juice and feedback: improve particle effects, screen shake, and UI responsiveness.

Thanks for following our journey — we’re almost there!
